The annual celebration of Global Accessibility Awareness Day is underway for 2022.
Each year, it is a chance for the global business community to assess what it is doing to make its products and services as accessible to as many customers as possible., whether it be physical products, or websites or apps.
It’s also a chance for new products and services to be discuss and shown off and 2022 is no different. Apple have announced a range of new features that will be coming into the new releases of its software later in the year, while Google have announced Braille support for the first time in Android 13, merging the previously-separate Brailleback app into Talkback itself. And Microsoft during its recent Ability Summit event, announced new adaptive accessories and an Inclusive Tech Lab for new concepts of devices and services to be created with disabled people at its heart.
On the podcast today Blind Guy Steven Scott and that other Blind Guy Shaun Preece discuss all of this plus we meet Kyran O’Mahoney Fromm the National Council for the Blind in Ireland to tell us about their new service launching on GAAD for smart speakers, allowing clients to access important sight loss information and services provided by the charity, as well as access podcasts and daily newspapers.
